Doctor Strange
A product of his time, Marvel's Doctor Strange anticipated the tune-in, drop-out zeitgeist of
the late 1960s. An arrogant neurosurgeon unable to work after a car accident, Stephen Strange headed to the
Himalayas in search of a miracle worker, The Ancient One, who he believed could cure him.
Deemed unworthy of help, Strange was left to wander in the jungle before accidentally uncovering a plot of the
Ancient One's protege, Baron Mordo, to overthrow his mentor. Mordo's plot foiled, the Ancient One agreed to help
Strange but repaired his soul rather than his hand.
Back in New York, Strange was hailed as an expert on the occult, but he had inherited the Ancient One's mantle as
Earth's Sorcerer Supreme, his new destiny to prevent harm coming to the planet.
